Principles Behind the products

Compact Supply Chain

The typical materials for a piece of furniture travel thousands of miles before it's even built, carrying with it a heavy carbon footprint.

By sourcing locally, the OkaTerra supply chain reduces transportation emissions by 90% compared to most furniture.

Our compact supply chain not only allows us to reduce our environmental impacts It also allows us to cultivate our connections with regenerative farmers in our bioregion, helping each other grow and scale, developing a symbiotic relationship as we take the steps towards circularity.

Biodiversity

At OkaTerra, regeneration begins in the soil. We work with farmers who utilize practices that nurture biodiversity, protect native species, and steward the earth for generations to come.

Our wool is sourced from pastures where sheep graze in rotation, allowing pastures to maintain their native plant species and create environments for pollinators to thrive.

our materials like hemp, not only support our furniture designs, but enrich the soil it grows in. Each practice we support is to pursue protecting the bioregion and creating a regenerative future.

Embracing natural Variation

Nature doesn’t create uniformity—and neither do we. By sourcing from local ecosystems and using upcycled materials, we lean into nature’s inherent diversity.

Every knot in the wood, to the unique shades of the wool each sheep makes, is a mark we won't hide.

We don’t just accept these variations—we celebrate them. Each OkaTerra piece is intentionally one of a kind, bringing the wild, imperfect beauty of the natural world into your home.

Upcycling

What others consider waste, we reimagine. Instead of sending discarded materials to the landfill, we transform them into the core of what we create.

With the support of our partners, we give new life to resources others overlook. We source Carbon Smart Wood™ exclusively from fallen trees in the city of Baltimore that would otherwise be chipped or discarded.

We also repurpose waste wool that doesn’t meet the standards for spinning into yarn, turning it into felted pads and stuffing for our soft goods. We see waste as potential.

Transparency

At OkaTerra, our supply chain isn’t an afterthought, it’s the starting point. We design our products around the materials and relationships that make them possible.

Every fiber and piece of wood has a known origin, and our close partnerships with farmers and suppliers are woven into each product’s story. By building with transparency in mind, we ensure that what we know—you can know too.

The trust we’ve cultivated behind the scenes is passed directly to you, through clear, traceable, and accessible sourcing.
